Rubbish Collection


 

 

Household rubbish is collected every week according to parish and street.

 

If you live in St. Helier, contact the Municipal Services Depot on +44 (0) 1534 811708 to find out when your collection day is.

 

For residents outside of St. Helier, visit your My Parish Online website.

 

The following items will not be collected and should be taken to the La Collette household recycling centre:

 

  • Furniture
  • TVs/electronics
  • Mattresses
  • Solvent-based chemicals and paints
  • White goods

 

 

Parish Household Recycling


 

 

There is a monthly kerbside recycling scheme in place for Jersey residents residing in Grouville, St. Brelade, St. Clement, St Helier, St John, St Lawrence, St Martin, St Mary, St Quen, St Peter, St Saviour and Trinity.

 

St. Helier has kerbside collection for paper, cardboard, plastic bottles and cans. Collection day is dependent upon parish and this information is available at your local parish hall. Red bags are used for plastic bottles and cans and blue bags are used for paper and cardboard.

 

 

Recyclable Items

  • Glass (empty bottles and jars)
  • Metal packaging (eg: food cans, drink cans, aerosol cans, metal lids, foil, foil packaging)
  • Paper (eg: newspaper, magazines, catalogues, envelopes, sheet paper)
  • Plastic bottles (eg: all plastic bottles, such as drink bottles, detergent bottles, etc)
  • Textiles (in bags)
  • Batteries (eg: AA/AAA household batteries, no lead acid/car batteries)
  • Cardboard (eg: empty boxes, card food packaging, brown paper and card, no milk/liquid cartons)

 

 

Glass Collections

 

Glass must be separated from rubbish in Jersey as all parishes provide glass collection services except for St. Helier, which is home to a number of glass recycling banks. Glass is also permitted at La Collette’s household recycling centre.

 

 

 

Special Waste Services


 

 

Green Garden Waste

 

Residential green garden waste can be taken to La Collette household green waste reception. Commercial garden waste is not accepted.


Green waste must not contain the following:

  • Metals
  • Plastics
  • Animal faeces
  • Soiled animal bedding
  • Treated/processed wood
  • Wooden posts/fencing
  • Large stones
  • Glass
  • String
  • Harmful plants (eg: ragwort, Japanese knotweed, bracken, broad and curly leaf dock)

 

Jersey offers special waste services for asbestos, hazardous waste, septic tanks, sewage and liquid waste.

 

 

Battery Recycling

 

Jersey recycles most types of household batteries, including AAA, AA, C, D, button, mobile phone and rechargeable batteries, at battery banks located throughout the Island. Vehicle batteries cannot be recycled but can be taken to the Household Reuse and Recycling Centre at La Collette.

 

 

Electrical Recycling

 

Jersey’s Household Reuse & Recycling Centre at La Collette collects electrical goods for recycling so that the metals can be reused and the chemicals reused or safely disposed of.

 

The following items are accepted:

  • Kettles
  • Stereos
  • Heaters
  • Toasters
  • DVD players
  • Hair dryers and styling appliances
  • Vacuum cleaners
  • Lawn mowers
  • Microwaves
  • Game consoles
  • Drills
  • Sanders
  • Fat fryers (brought in a separate container, the cooking oil is also recyclable)
  • Kitchen appliances

 

There is a separate recycling area at the Household Reuse & Recycling Centre at La Collette for the following items:

  • Televisions
  • Monitors
  • Laptops
  • PDAs
  • Tablets

 

For larger electrical goods like fridges, freezers and cooling appliances, there is a separate area at Household Reuse & Recycling Centre at La Collette.
