Jersey Fish Festival

Every year at the beginning of August, The Jersey Fisherman's Association put on an event to celebrate Jersey's sea fishing industry and heritage. In order to stress the work and high quality of locally-caught fish, they plan for everything from musical entertainment to craft stalls and boat races.

In years past, the entertainment has included live music, visiting sea-shanty bands, kids activities, a water carnival and the decoration of the Jersey fishing fleet. They've also had man-powered flight contests of daring individuals jumping off the pier, something that is said to have been an integral part of Jersey maritime festivals in history.

For seafood lovers, there are magnificent cooking demonstrations from top French and local chefs who will give audience members the chance to sample some Genuine Jersey products.

The vendor stalls will feature everything from local produce traders to original crafts makers. You'll be kept fascinated for hours, and you'll want to stay until the end because the festival normally presents a fantastic display of fireworks from the water.

From spokesman Don Thompson of the Jersey Fisherman's Association, “Jersey's professional fishermen want to put on a big day for Jersey's public to participate in the celebration of our fishing heritage. Our sea food is world class and the industry is an integral part of the Island's life and character. Hosting a day of fun, music and activity is our way of demonstrating the pride we have in our industry.” (jersey.com)
