This car - a rare, luxurious and collectable variant of the famous Mini - was first registered in May 1965, making it a Series II vehicle, fitted with a 998 cc engine, rated at 38 bhp, giving it a claimed top speed of 77 mph. Amazingly, this vehicle remained in the hands of its first owner for 30 years, and covered less than 10,000 miles in all that time. In the hands of subsequent owners (only 4 in all) the car still has just 10,600 miles clocked up – verified by MOT records up to 2021.
The Hornet is running well and in very good mechanical repair, with evidence of regular maintenance. It received an unleaded head conversion and stainless exhaust system in the late 90’s. More recently (2022) the clutch & brake hydraulic systems have received an overhaul.
The exterior of the car is in first-class condition, in original Pale Ivory and Damask Red roof, with all trim and brightwork present and correct. The interior is in excellent shape – leather seats, carpets and wood veneer dash. A period Radiomobile unit has been fitted.
This is a true time-warp vehicle in excellent original condition, it has been very well cared for throughout its life. The Hornet has a sizeable history file including many MOT records, invoices for work completed and a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate.
